Perfect Practice
03/17/2005
Asians theorized long ago that if a person repeats a physical action enough times, it will eventually become a reflex action. Research in recent years has actually proven this theory to be true. If a person repeats a physical action 3000 to 5000 times it will in fact become a reflex action. By reflex action, we are talking about muscle memory. Your muscles react in a way that is almost without thought.
The problem with this is the simple fact that a person can develop bad reflexes as easily as good ones. Repetition of a sloppy or lazy technique will only lead you to be an expert at executing sloppy and lazy techniques.
If you wish to become a technical expert, you should strive every time you practice to execute the technique as perfectly as possible. Practice does not make perfect, but perfect practice does make perfect technique.
