Kodokan Judo for Kids
What physical strengths will my child develop?
Duane Alexenko is the Sensei (instructor) for Dynamic MMA's Kodokan Judo for kids program. Alexenko Sensei has been practicing Judo since 1965 and has over 30 years of teaching experience. He taught the Judo for kids program at Umpqua Community College for over 20 years and has been teaching at Dynamic MMA since 2005. He even taught Judo fundamentals to Dynamic MMA owner, Larry Keith in 1990 at UCC.
Assisting Alexenko Sensei is Jessee Filan. Jessee is 17 years old and has been training with Dynamic MMA for nearly 4 years. Recently, Jessee went to Russia with the DFCC team to study and compete in Judo, Sambo, and Mixed Martial Arts. Jessee became the first American to compete in an International Submission Wrestling event in the Republic of Sakha, in Siberian Russia. Jessee won his match in under 2 minutes via sankaku jime or triangle choke.
In the Dynamic MMA Kodokan Judo for kids program, the students learn from the ground up. The first thing learned are proper warm ups to help increase flexibility, coordination, and physical strength.
Next they learn proper break fall techniques called "ukemi" to ensure the safety of learning the throws and takedowns of Judo.
Once they have learned how to safely fall, the students begin to learn the throws, pins and submissions of Kodokan Judo. Since there are no strikes in Judo, the students learn how to defend themselves without ever needing to throw a punch.
Our Kodokan Judo for Kids program includes games and fun activities that keep things interesting for the children while they continue to learn the physical and mental skills of the martial art. Expect your child to develop better balance, coordination, and agility. Also, remember that your child's safety is our number one priority. All techniques are practiced under the close and careful supervision of our highly qualified instructors.
Children have so much to gain from being involved in our Kids' Kodokan Judo program.
1. The confidence to stay clear of drugs and other negative influences.
2. They will gain the life skills of patience, respect, and perseverance.
3. Improved concentration and self-discipline to improve their grades. (Statistics show that kids enrolled in martial arts have better grades in school)
4. The motivation to become the leader of their peers rather than the follower.
5. A friendly environment that is safe, enjoyable and educational to promote a positive outlook on life.
6. New friendships and common interests with other students.
7. Not to mention the ability to defend one's self if the need were to arise.
If your child doesn't seem to enjoy team sports such as football, soccer, or baseball, you really should give your child a chance to try something else by enrolling him/her in our either our Kids' MMA or Kids' Judo programs. While in the dojo, kids do learn and participate as a team, but are also recognized for their individual achievements.
If you are planning to involve your child in any of the local wrestling programs, you really should give your child a head start by enrolling him/her in our Kodokan Judo program. Judo has been an Olympic sport since 1964. No American has ever won a gold medal at the Olympics for Judo. Perhaps your child could be the first.
Judo and other martial arts training have proven beneficial for children with A.D.H.D. While other sports such as football have too many things going on at once and baseball has too long of lag time between plays, martial arts offers a variety of systematic activities that work well with young, active minds.
Please help us spread the word. E-mail this site to your friends. Tell others that Kodokan Judo and Submission Wrestling for kids are available at DFCC.
