Buckets of Sand

Alexenko Sensei is a man that truly has been everywhere and done everything. As a result he is full of great stories. His wisdom from these life experiences gives a moral to nearly all of his stories.
While he was in Guam a few decades ago, Alexenko was on a Judo team. There were a few teams on the island. One of the teams ran up and down the beach every day carrying buckets full of sand. When Alexenko asked his sensei if they too should be training like this, his sensei replied, "No, we will practice Judo. When the tournament comes, they will be very good at carrying buckets of sand, and we will be very good at Judo."
Take a look at your own training. Are you increasing your martial skills, or are you just carrying buckets of sand?
